Emissions Inventory

Each year, the Air Pollution Control District inventories the emissions produced by sources in Jefferson County and reports the totals to the US EPA.

In the case of stationary sources (power plants, factories, dry cleaners, fueling stations, etc.), permitted sources are required to report their emissions to the District. Large sources (in terms of the quantity of pollutants emitted) must report emissions annually, while smaller sources may only need to report every three years (2005, 2008, 2011, ...).

Emissions inventory submittals for a particular year are due by April 15 of the following year. When the submission deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it is District policy to extend the deadline to the next business day.  If you operate an air pollution source, please download the emissions inventory forms, fill them out and send them to the address given in the forms by the appropriate due date.  The document below lists all emissions inventory and STAR Program deadlines.

Mobile sources (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.) are inventoried using an EPA-specified model that calculates emissions based on such data as the number of vehicles in each class, vehicle-miles-traveled (VMT), the use of vehicle inspection and maintenance programs, and other factors.
