Rebate Programs

Thumbnail image of lawn care rebate presentation (click to download the presentation) Since 2003, Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District has offered cash rebates for the purchase of air-friendly lawn care equipment. The Lawn Care Rebate Program is sponsored by KAIRE. The purpose of the program is to reduce emissions from gasoline engines that contribute to ozone formation. When applying for a rebate, you may be asked to provide information about your lawn size and maintenance habits so we can calculate emissions saved through this program. This program offers both residential and commercial rebates.

Lawn Care Rebate Procedures

To participate in the Lawn Care Rebate Program, follow these guidelines:

  • All residents of Louisville/Jefferson County are eligible.  Proof of residency is required for rebate (drivers license or other official state issued identification).
  • All eligible equipment must be purchased new or factory reconditioned.
  • Only one rebate will be issued for each piece of equipment purchased.
  • For a Bonus Rebate, trade-in equipment must be gas-powered or electric equipment or replacement batteries, similar to the new eligible electric, reel, or battery-powered equipment that will be purchased.  The equipment should be taken to one of the recycling centers listed below before you purchase your new equipment. Some participating dealers accept replacement batteries for trade/recycling when a new battery is purchased.
  • Metro Recycling Centers only accept mowers that are drained of all oil and gasoline***.
  • Rebates are available year-round. The Metro Recycling Center at Hubbards Lane now accepts lawn care equipment year round. However, the other Louisville Metro recycling centers will only accept lawn maintenance equipment from March through September. The recycling center must be accepting lawn equipment for you to get the official notarized rebate certificate (green).
    • Metro Recycling Center # 1, 595 Hubbards Lane, open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Metro Recycling Center # 2, 7219 Dixie Highway, with the same hours
    • Metro Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue, open Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • The above facilities are closed on holiday weekends.  The Metro Waste Reduction Center accepts riding mowers; the other locations cannot.
  • Present the voucher and a copy of your driver’s license (or other proof of residency) when you purchase eligible equipment at a participating dealer to receive your Bonus Rebate on the spot!  If you don't have anything to trade in, you can still receive a Standard Rebate just by purchasing eligible equipment at a participating dealer!  In both cases, your rebate amount will be deducted from the retail price.
  • If you are purchasing your eligible equipment at a non-participating dealer, follow the instructions on the Rebate Request Form to request a Bonus Rebate or a Standard Rebate.  You should receive your rebate within 60 days.
  • You can receive one rebate for each piece of equipment purchased.

* Eligible electric string trimmers are min. 4 amp or 12 volt + 2-year warranty.

** Blower/Vacuum includes leaf blowers that have a leaf vacuum function or attachment. (min. 9 amps, 200 mph force + 2-year warranty)
