Responsible Rally for Rover on the Big Four Bridge
Thursday March 21, 2013
The Ramsey Brothers of Lite 106.9 have organized representatives of Cox Media Group/WAVE 3, Feeders Supply, the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS), Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS), the Waterfront Development Corporation, and Barkstown Road to plan the Responsible Rally for Rover on the Big Four Bridge. The event, which encourages responsible pet ownership, will start at the Big Four Lawn on Sunday, March 24, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.
The public is encouraged to bring their pets and “pick up” bags to this educational event in support of responsible pet ownership, and to help spread the word that taking care of our four-legged friends by keeping them on a leash and picking up after them is not only the right thing to do, it’s the law!
KHS and LMAS have developed the Bridge Brigade Pledge, and free dog bandanas and Bridge Brigade t-shirts, courtesy of Feeders Supply, will be given to dog owners who sign the pledge. The pledge includes a promise to always clean up after your pet, and it encourages owners to carry extra bags to share, along with some gentle education on the importance of keeping our public spaces clean. The plan is that Bridge Brigade supporters will take up the cause and will become an ongoing presence on the bridge, providing information about the importance of responsible pet ownership in a positive and friendly manner.
A short program will be followed by a show of dog owner solidarity – a walk across the Big Four Bridge.
During the walk, entertainment will be provided on the Big Four landing by Oberlin Steel, a steel drum band from Oberlin College.
KHS and LMAS will distribute information about responsible pet ownership, and LMAS will have adoptable dogs at the event, as well as information on pet adoption.
