Wednesday December 14, 2011

Metro Animal Services Is Offering Free Behavior Classes Just In Time For The Holidays

Classes Offered Third Monday of Every Month For Cats And Dogs

LOUISVILLE (December 14, 2011) Is your cat messing with the Holiday Tree? Is your dog constantly grabbing the cut-out cookies from the counter? Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) is here to help. On Monday, December 19 from 7-8 p.m. at Animal House Adoption Center (3516 Newburg Rd.), trained behaviorists will give you tips to help your pet become more mannered. “Part of our mission is to help pet owners in Louisville develop a better relationship with their cat or dog,” said Metro Animal Services Director Justin Scally. “We know the holidays can be a stressful time and we want to do our part to help ease the frustrations.”

Some of the items covered in the behavior class include: barking, crate training, litter box problems, leash issues, scratching, food aggression, shyness and much more. Metro Animal Services staff along with their partner Slugger City Bully Buddies speak fluent animal. The goal is to make sure cats and dogs are respected members of the community and trained to act mannerly in the home, in public places and in the presence of other animals.

These classes are part of LMAS’ goal of pet retention which includes providing alternatives to pet relinquishment. The agency will continue to develop numerous programs that enlist the public as allies in keeping animals out of shelters. By creating a support system, these classes will help save lives by keeping pets in their homes, while educating the community in a meaningful, supportive way about the responsibilities of pet ownership.

If you are interested in signing up for the next class call 473-PETS (7387) or email MASPublicEd@louisvilleky.gov to register. Please no children under 12 years old and no animals.

*Behavior Classes are offered the third Monday of every month from 7-8 p.m. for cat and dog owners.
