Metro Animal Services Searches For Suspect In Dog Shooting

Animal Services Searching For Suspect(s) Who Shot Dog

Reward Offered for Information Leading to Arrest & Conviction

Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) is investigating a serious case of animal cruelty and is hoping the community can help with information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible.

A preliminary investigation by LMAS Animal Control Officers discovered the dog was shot near the 1300 block of Temple Street around 9:00 p.m. last Wednesday. The tan and white pit bull, Ethan, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck and face area. Shamrock Arrow Fund immediately stepped in to handle the severe emergency medical needs of the young male dog. Unfortunately, Ethan passed away this weekend.

“These acts of cruelty and abuse are unacceptable,” said Director of Metro Animal Services Justin Scally. “As a community, we need to come together to make sure all animals are treated with the proper respect. Our officers and staff will continue to do everything we can to protect Louisville animals and bring them the justice they deserve. Our goal is to ensure people who commit violent crimes against animals are punished accordingly.”

"When LMAS called us for help, we immediately rushed the injured dog to veterinary specialists for emergency care," said Rebecca Eaves, director of The Shamrock Arrow Fund. “Ethan had several surgeries to repair the extensive injuries caused by the shooting, but we are sad to say he didn’t make it. I sincerely hope that the person(s) responsible for causing the suffering and death of this sweet dog is brought to justice and receives the maximum penalty for this despicable act.”

Those with any information about this act of cruelty are urged to call Metro Animal Services at (502) 363-6609. The Humane Society of the United States is partnering with LMAS to offer a $2,500 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction.
