Kentucky Humane Society and Louisville Metro Animal Services
Extend $40 Adoption Special Through Dec. 14
The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) and Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) are extending $40 adoptions for cats and dogs age one year and older through Saturday, Dec. 14. The special was scheduled to run through Sunday, Dec. 8, but due to poor weather and closing of some of the adoption centers, the agencies are extending the adoption special another six days.
The two agencies want to make December 2013 the largest pet adoption month in the history of Louisville. Their aim is to find homes for 800 pets by December 31, 2013.
“Our joint goal is an ambitious one of finding loving, forever homes for 800 grateful pets,” says Margaret Brosko, LMAS Senior Manager. “If everyone works together, our holiday wish of seeing empty cages as people embody the season of giving will come true.”
To reach this goal, the two agencies are asking the public to choose to adopt and to not purchase dogs and cats this holiday season. To encourage adoptions, both agencies are offering $40 adoptions through Saturday, Dec. 14, for dogs and cats age one year and older.
“With so many wonderful homeless animals in our community, we are asking people to make adoption their first option,” says Susan Oppel, KHS Shelter Director.
LMAS and KHS have the widest selection of cats and dogs to choose from in the region, according to Brosko. “Whatever personality, size, color or age of pet you are looking for, between our agencies we probably have the perfect pet for you,” says Brosko.
To keep the public informed on agencies’ progress toward this ambitious goal, KHS and LMAS are posting updates on their websites and Facebook pages on the total number of pets adopted in December.
For more information, contact KHS at (502) 366-3355 or kyhumane.org, or LMAS at (502) 473-7387 or louisvilleky.gov/AnimalServices. The adoption special takes place through Dec. 14 at nine permanent KHS adoption locations, including seven Feeders Supply stores, as well as the LMAS Animal House Adoption Center, Manslick Road location and at LMAS adoption sites at participating PetSmart stores. Adopters must pay for any applicable licensing fees. Adoption is pending approval of an application process that usually takes an hour or less.
