Animal Services Taking Action to Control Disease
Metro Animal Services is taking steps to reduce the risk of distemper and other upper respiratory illnesses. “We have seen numerous cases of extreme disease in our shelter and the community,” said Metro Animal Services Director Justin Scally. “It is in the best interest of the animals of Louisville Metro to implement a number of emergency policies to help prevent the spread of disease.”

Adoption Blitz a Success at Metro Animal Services
Thanks to an overwhelming response from rescue groups, foster volunteers and animal-lovers communitywide, no dogs will have to be euthanized at Metro Animal Services due to overcrowding.

Search Resumes for Metro Animal Services Director
The city will immediately resume its search for a director of Metro Animal Services who can turnaround the troubled agency and move it toward being a national model in which no adoptable animal is euthanized, Mayor Greg Fischer announced today.

Adoption Fees Waived for the Month of June!
Adoption Drive: Metro Animal Services is joining the ASPCA®/Fresh Step® Litter Fee-Waived Cat Adoption Campaign and hosting a fee-waived cat adoption drive to find loving homes for cats in the Louisville Metro area. Metro Animal Services’ Animal House Adoption Center will kick-off the fee waiving campaign for cats 6 months old and older with a month long fee-waived promotion on Friday June 3rd. The fee waived adoptions will continue through Thursday, June 30. A $9 license fee will apply.

Proposals for Animal Care & Sheltering Released
The Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government (“Metro Government”) is now accepting Proposals for Animal Care and Sheltering. This will include responsibility for the intake, care, sheltering, and final disposition of all animals. coming into the facilities located at 3705 Manslick Road and 3516 Newburg Road, Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville Metro Government will retain animal control and ordinance enforcement functions.

Fischer Accepts Animal Services Review; Seeks Agency To Assume Shelter Care
Saying Metro Animal Services needs a complete turnaround and professional help to accomplish it, Mayor Greg Fischer today announced that the city will contract with a private agency to handle pet care, sheltering and adoptions while the city will focus on animal control.

Helping Distressed Kitty was a “Can-do” Effort for Metro Animal Services
A 6-month-old stray male kitten was a little too “head strong” in his attempt to find his supper. While working on finding his next meal, he discovered a can of Campbell’s soup and helped himself to the leftovers. In the process of dining, however, he ended up getting himself “canned,” with his head stuck in the can.

Roll the Dice at Animal House To See if You Have The Luck of the Irish
Your Lucky Number will Determine Your Adoption Fee Discount The Animal House Adoption Center is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by letting adopters determine their own discount with the roll of a die. Discounts apply to animals five months old and older. Regular adoption fees for cats, dogs, puppies and kittens range from $50 to $175. Discounts will vary from 10% - 60%. The promotion runs begins Tuesday, March 8 and ends Sunday, March 20.
