Don't Miss HappyTail Hour - The Official Pet Friendly Derby Festival Event at Kroger's Derby Fest-a-Ville
Wednesday April 21, 2010
(LOUISVILLE, April 21, 2010) – Attention dogs of all shapes and sizes! It’s time to walk your owners down to Waterfront Park for the fourth annual Metro Animal Services HappyTail Hour. This pet-friendly cocktail event is an official part of the Kentucky Derby Festival. Dog owners may bring their four-legged friends to the Great Lawn on Monday, April 26th from 5 to 9 p.m. at Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. All animals must be on leashes.
The event will feature music by various bands comprised of members of Louisville’s musical Maxwell family. A couple familiar names include: The Louisville Crashers and Soul Incorporated. Pet owners can play games with their animals and visit booths with pet merchandise. For those looking to add to their pet families, MAS’ 34-foot mobile adoption unit, S.P.O.T, will be on hand with adoptable animals.
“HappyTail Hour is a great opportunity for people to kick-off Derby week with their furry friends included,” said Jackie Gulbe, MAS assistant director of community relations. “I think it is important for people to have an opportunity to do something pet-oriented during derby week, that way they won’t be as tempted to bring their animals to events that aren’t pet friendly.” The original event was conceived as a result of community feedback expressing concern about a lack of events that welcome pets. Many dog owners are interested in social activities that are pet-friendly.
