Metro Animal Services Announces Rabies, Licensing, and Microchipping Clinics
Thursday July 9, 2009
Metro Animal Services will offer three rabies clinics at the shelter’s 3705 Manslick Road location. The mobile medical and adoption unit, S.P.O.T. (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today) will be set up in the parking lot to serve customers who need to get their cat, dog or ferret’s rabies vaccinations and license up to date. Microchips will also be available.
- July 29, Wednesday – 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- August 26, Wednesday - 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- September 30, Wednesday, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Metro Animal Services’ medical staff will administer rabies vaccines, implant microchips at discounted prices and issue licenses on a first-come, first-serve basis. The one-year rabies and licensing packages cost $13 for seniors (for up to two altered pets), $17.50 for owners of altered pets and $58.50 for residents with unaltered pets. Proof of spay/neuter must be provided by owners registering their animals for the first time to receive a discount on their licenses. Typically, a rabies vaccination and office visit run more than $20 without a license.
“While we take S.P.O.T. out in the community for rabies and license clinics we also receive a lot of calls requesting this kind of service here at the shelter, so we thought we’d give it a try,” said Dr. Gilles Meloche, director of Louisville Metro Animal Services. “Keeping your pet vaccinated for rabies and licensed is a basic responsibility of being a pet owner.”
Pets that are licensed are more likely to be returned to their owners if they are lost. If cats or dogs are brought to Louisville Metro Animal Services, they are processed quickly and owners are located more efficiently if an animal is properly licensed.
