Beautification

BrightSites
Project BrightSite was started in 1987 with the purpose of taking small parcels of city-owned property and partnering with businesses or other agencies to get plant material donated and keep the newly-landscaped area maintained. That tradition continues today. BrightSites are mini botanical gardens located across the metro area. Studies show that green oasises such as these build civic pride and inspire neighbors to keep the area looking its best.

Neighborhood Naturescapes
Brightside strives to find ways for all Louisville residents to become engaged in keeping our community clean and green. NatureScape Grants are designed to help neighborhood groups and other non-profits keep the public spaces of the community looking its best by connecting your group with the needed resources to create the beautification project of your choosing.

Our Spring 2010 NatureScape Grant Applications are now available. Click here for more information.

Brightside Beautiful Business
A Brightside Beautiful Business is dedicated to maintaining a positive image in the community. They are committed to keeping their property free of trash and cigarette butts, and in making sure it looks respectable to people that shop, eat or conduct business there. Each participating business will receive a decal indicating that they care about the community and environment.

Interstate Daffodil & Wildflower Program
Recently Brightside added more daffodil bulbs to the plantings in Spaghetti Junction along the roadside. More areas are currently planned and contributions of large and small dollar amounts would provide another burst of color and add beauty to our community.

Flower Shower
This program has temporarily been suspended due to budget cuts.

Community Gardens
The Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service manages the community garden program. They provide educational services and horticultural strategies that could improve your garden. They can answer your gardening questions and are planning to host several gardening classes throughout the year. Contact Denise Peterson 502-569-2344 for more information.
