Outdoor Classrooms

Brightside encourages and facilitates beautification projects and promotes environmental awareness. Outdoor classrooms provide a hands on learning opportunity for children to connect with the environment. Their creative ideas can be expressed, implemented and cherished when they see the fruits of their labor flourish.

The Kentucky School Garden Network is collaborating with Brightside, The Partnership for a Green City EE committee, Jefferson County Extension Service, The JCPS and the U of L Centers for Environmental Education to sponsor a survey and needs assessment of schools and gardening.

By completing the survey you will:

* Have the option to receive regular updates on grants, professional development opportunities and assistance in getting started and/or maintaining your school outdoor classroom.

* Demonstrate the level of interest in expansion of school gardening and/or the use of outdoor environment

* Help focus future initiatives of the school gardening community to work on projects that will help your school.

For those completing the survey by Feb 16th will be entered into a drawing for free garden equipment, complete soil analysis assessments and other related material. Register even if you only have an interest in gardens or are currently working with a gardening program off your site.

Please pass this survey on to any interested teachers, parents and or involved students. Copy and paste the survey link into your web browser www.surveymonkey.com/s/schoolgardens.
