Mayor Jerry Abramson today issued a call for volunteers to help Louisville “go green and clean” before out-of-town visitors arrive for the Derby at the 11th Brightside Chase Pre-Derby Cleanup, Wednesday, April 23, 1:30 to 4 p.m.
“It’s our annual spring tradition to get our downtown looking clean and green for Derby visitors,” Abramson said. “A record-number of volunteers have worked hard this spring to spruce up neighborhoods and now it’s time to be sure our downtown is looking great. This cleanup builds great civic pride among our downtown businesses.”
Chase is the sponsor for the cleanup by assisting with costs of supplies and T-shirts for volunteers. In addition, free lunch is provided by KFC from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in Jefferson Square Park at 6th and Jefferson Streets.
Volunteer crews will pick up litter and weed and mulch tree wells in the downtown area, from Broadway to Main; Preston to Ninth; Downtown green spaces (Jefferson Square Park, Founders Square, etc). Each volunteer receives a boxed lunch, gloves and bags, a T-shirt and other great giveaways.
