The Dare to Care program operates a commodity and emergency food assistance program for households in crisis. Commodities are issued once per month and are available up to twelve times per year. Emergency food is designed to provide nutritional supplements four times per year. Food items include canned and dry food staples, fresh vegetables, poultry, pork and meat products.
The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) food bank operates out of our East District location serving zip codes 40213, 40218 and 40219. For all other zip codes contact Dare to Care at 966-3821 to find the location nearest you.

Note: In keeping with Dare to Care regulations, LIHEAP clients are asked to make their Dare to Care commodity pick-ups on a different day than their LIHEAP appointments.
Commodities No appointment is necessary Monday - Wednesday: 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm Thursday: 9:00am - 12:00pm

Perishable Food Distribution First come first served basis so arrive early Fridays, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm |
Commodity Food Recipients will need:
You are REQUIRED to provide proof of residence to get Commodities.
You DO NOT have to provide:
• A picture ID
• Social Security Card
• Proof of Income
YOU MAY ACCESS THIS PROGRAM ONCE A MONTH
Emergency Food Recipients will need:
1. Picture I.D. for ALL adults in the household
2. Proof of Residence such as current mail (no junk mail)
3. Identification for EVERY child in the household (not social security cards)
Acceptable ID for children is:
• Medical/Insurance Card
• Birth Certificate
• WIC Card
• Immunization Record
• Report Card
• State Issued ID Card
• Military ID
• Driver’s Permit
