Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) – Subsidy Phase
The Louisville Metro Community Action’s LIHEAP Subsidy Program provides utility assistance to low-income residents. The benefit amount that a household receives is based on its level of poverty and the type of fuel used for heating. This component operates this year from November 2 through December 11, 2009.

All residents wishing to apply are required to have an appointment. Appointments will be scheduled, in person only, beginning Monday, October 26, 2009.

LIHEAP Appointment Process

To schedule an appointment, you need to visit one of the locations listed below and bring 1) your current heating bill or landlord statement if utilities are included in your rent, and 2) a photo ID.

Appointments will be issued, in person, at all three locations:


Monday, October 26, 8 am - 4 pm
Tuesday, October 27, 8 am - 8 pm
Wednesday, October 28, 8 am - 4 pm
Thursday, October 29, 8 am - 8 pm
Plus Friday, October 30, 8 am - 4 pm at Central and South locations only

Plus additional dates at Central only:
Saturday, October 31, 10 am – 2 pm
Sunday, November 1, 2 pm - 5 pm

Starting November 2, 2009 appointments will be scheduled at each office daily from 8 am to 1 pm (no Friday appointments at the East Office), based on appointment availability.

(All offices will be closed November 3, November 26 and November 27, 2009.)

Applicants will need to bring the following information for eligibility determination at the time of their appointment.
• Most recent heating bills or verification from the landlord verifying that the heating expenses are included in the rent (i.e. lease agreements);
• Social Security cards (or official documentation with social security numbers) or Permanent Resident Card Numbers for everyone living in the household;
• Proof of all household income for the preceding month (Food Stamp Award letter, Termination letter, etc.) or proof of $0 Income; and
• Picture ID

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) – Crisis Phase
The Louisville Metro Community Action’s LIHEAP Crisis Program provides utility assistance to low-income residents with past due or disconnection notices from their utility service provider, or who are currently without utility services. This program operates from January 4, 2010 through March 31, 2010 or until funds are exhausted.
