May is National Community Action Month
Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) is “On the Move” for National Community Action Awareness Month. Louisville Metro CAP is one of approximately 1,000 Community Action Partnerships nationwide which have been a vibrant, proactive neighborhood network for 45 years. Community Action Partnerships help 13 million people annually achieve economic stability and move toward self-sufficiency.
The Louisville Metro CAP has adopted CAP “On the Move” as the motto that best defines their commitment to serving people in their respective communities. Staff members will visit more than 60 businesses and organizations this month to spread awareness about the variety of programs offered to help low-income individuals and families.
“The financial crisis has been really hard on everyone, but it has hit low-income people the hardest,” said Mary Elizabeth Miles, Executive Director of LMCAP. “We are happy to participate in National Community Action Month to call attention to poverty-related problems and the initiatives Community Action Partnership has implemented to address them. Some of those programs include job training, education and financial planning initiatives, in addition to our nutrition and emergency assistance programs.”
