Children’s Summer Food Service Program Began June 8, 2009

The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) - Summer Food Service Program (previously called Summer Lunch Program) began Monday, June 8. Up to 120 sites across the city will serve a combination of two of the following meals -- breakfast, lunch, snack and/or dinner to all children 18 and under. The free meal service runs through Friday, August 7, 2009.

According to Jefferson County Public Schools, approximately 60 percent of JCPS students participate in the free or reduced lunch program. “Our goal is to provide well-balanced, nutritious meals for children and teenagers during the summer months, when they are out of school," said Mary Elizabeth Miles, LMCAP Executive Director.

All meals are provided free. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Turkey-based products are used for all meals served in this program.
