Heater Assistance Program begins November 2nd
The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (CAP) will begin the Heater Assistance Program, November 2, 2009 through March 31, 2010. This program offers space heaters on loan to individuals and families when their main heating source is in need of repair or replacement.

Pre-Registration for the Heating Assistance Program begins October 5th
Home heating costs can be a large expense for families in the winter, so the Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (CAP) will begin accepting pre-registration heating assistance applications beginning on Monday, Oct. 5. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides financial assistance to help citizens pay utility bills. Pre-registration is only for income-eligible residents who are disabled or elderly receiving social security, SSI, pension or Black Lung benefits.

More than 120 Summer Lunch Sites Now Open
Children and teenagers in need of a meal during the summer may visit more than 120 sites across Louisville participating in the Summer Food Service Program. The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) administers the program, which provides free, nutritious meals for children during the summer when school is not in session. The 122 meal sites serve a combination of two of the following meals -- breakfast, lunch, snack and/or dinner to all children 18 and under in Jefferson County. The free meal service runs through Friday, August 7, 2009.

2009 Summer Heat Relief Program
Citizens who suffer from certain medical conditions may be eligible to receive a free fan or air conditioner through the Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) and the WLKY TV-32 Fan Club. The Summer Heat Relief Program is available through August 28, 2009. The program provides one air conditioner per household for family members with certain medical conditions – those deemed life-threatening or which may worsen without air conditioning. To qualify, applicants must meet the 125 percent federal poverty income guideline.

The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) - Summer Food Service Program (previously called Summer Lunch Program) began Monday, June 8. Up to 120 sites across the city will serve a combination of two of the following meals -- breakfast, lunch, snack and/or dinner to all children 18 and under. The free meal service runs through Friday, August 7, 2009.

Community Action Month
Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) is “On the Move” for National Community Action Awareness Month. Louisville Metro CAP is one of approximately 1,000 Community Action Partnerships nationwide which have been a vibrant, proactive neighborhood network for 45 years. Community Action Partnerships help 13 million people annually achieve economic stability and move toward self-sufficiency.

CSBG Annual Plan for 2009-2010 Available
The public may inspect the Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (LMCAP) 2009-2010 Community Services Block Grant Annual Plan at all three CAP offices for the next 30 days. The Annual Plan outlines service programs and financing provided through the Community Action Partnership.

Mayors Deliver Meals on Wheels for “Mayors for Meals”
As part of the National Mayors for Meals program, Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and Shively Mayor Sherry Conner delivered meals this week to local senior citizens. Mayors across the country hit the road this week as part of the annual “March on Meals” celebration, sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America.

Special Administering Board Meeting
The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership (CAP) is hosting a special Administering Board meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the CAP Administrative Office located at the Urban Government Center, 810 Barret Avenue, Room 261. The purpose of this meeting is to get the Board’s input on helping to draft CAP’s Annual Plan and Budget Proposal that is submitted to the State’s Cabinet for Health and Family Services each year and to help prioritize CAP’s service categories that are included as part of the federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), which provides funding for much of CAP’s programs and services.
