Temporary and Extended Emergency Financial Assistance



The Temporary and Extended Emergency Financial Assistance program is funded by Metro Government.

Purpose:

  • To assist households that meet income and crisis criteria.
  • To stabilize housing by providing assistance for shelter and utilities.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Generally zero income for the month assistance is requested.
  • Applicant(s) must reside in Jefferson County.

Assistance Provided

  • Shelter and utility payment assistance provided to those who meet eligibility guidelines as determined by initial screening.

  • Duration of financial assistance is dependent upon qualifying eligibility criteria.

Examples of possible eligibility situations:

  • Loss of employment
  • Illness/disability pending SSI
  • Loss of support due to separation, desertion, death or domestic violence by wager earner.

Applications are made in person whenever possible. Temporary Emergency Assistance is provided through the Neighborhood Place. Telephone applications are taken for applicants unable to come to the office and/or other emergency situations.
