Neighborhood Place partners to offer valuable events and services in November

Neighborhood Place locations in Louisville will help to offer valuable events and services in November including a foreclosure prevention workshop, on-line registration assistance for Jefferson County Public Schools, an Energy Management Workshop and several holiday fundraisers. Four Neighborhood Place locations are offering on-line assistance for Jefferson County Public Schools' (JCPS) registration for the 2013-14 school year.
The following sites will be providing this service now through Jan. 11, 2013, excluding holidays. Call 485-6250 or visit www.jcpsky.net for more information.

Wed. 8 – 4 p.m.; Tues. 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
First Neighborhood Place, 1503 Rangeland Rd.
Tues, 8 – 11 a.m.; Thurs., 8 a.m – 4 p.m.
NorthWest Neighborhood Place, 4018 W. Market St.
Wed., 8 – 11 a.m.; Thurs., 8 – 11 a.m.; Fri., 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
South Jefferson Neighborhood Place @ Valley High School, 10200 Dixie Hwy.
Mon, 8 – 11 a.m.; Tues, 8 – 11 a.m.
Students who have moved, students new to the district, and any student interested in an optional program, magnet program, magnet school or a high school career theme may apply. Middle and High School on-line registration began Oct. 29th and Elementary and New Students registration begins Nov. 19th. Families who do not have internet access will now be able to go to a variety of community based sites in order to register their children for school, including the four Neighborhood Place locations listed above.


Nov. 14 and 18, PACT in Action Teen Dating Violence Prevention Efforts with Bridges of Hope Neighborhood Place, 4- 6 p.m.

PACT in Action, developed for teens by teens, aims to mobilize youth in the 40210 zip code to reduce the incidence of domestic violence by 10 percent by the year 2020. PACT in Action hopes to achieve this goal by first equipping youth with the knowledge and skills about teen dating violence; and by enhancing adult and community members' knowledge and skills to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors to support a reduction in teen dating violence in the community.


Nov. 15, Foreclosure Prevention Workshop at Southwest Library, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Located at 10375 Dixie Hwy. Call 962-3174 or 363-1449 to register and for more information.
Presented by Apprisen, this workshop will provide helpful information for those individuals who may be having trouble paying their mortgage. There will also be baskets and prizes giveaways. Co-sponsored by South Jefferson/Valley and First Neighborhood Places.


Nov. 15, Useful Ideas to Avoid Holiday Stress at Neighborhood Place Ujima, 6-8 p.m.
Located at 3610 Bohne Ave. Call 485-6710 for more information.
Facilitated by Louisville Asset Building Coalition, this workshop will focus on preparing a stress free holiday budget for the entire family. Light refreshments will be provided and parents and children are welcome.

Nov. 20, Neighborhood Place Ujima Customer/Community Appreciation Day, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The staff at Neighborhood Place Ujima invites you to share a cup of coffee, hot cider or hot chocolate.

Nov. 27, Energy Management Workshop at Bridges of Hope Neighborhood Place at 1 p.m.
Located at 1411 Algonquin Parkway. Call 634-6050 to register.
Participants will receive free supplies and learn “do-it-yourself” weatherization tips.

Nov. 13, Annual Chili Luncheon Fundraiser to benefit The Families-R-Us Store, 11:30 a.m. until the chili runs out
Located at 810 Barret Ave. in the Fishbowl Meeting Room on the 1st Floor. Call Erin Choi at 574-5498 with any questions. The Neighborhood Place at 810 Barret invites you to enjoy a bowl of chili, crackers, dessert and drink with great company. All for only $5.00.
The Families-R-Us Store located at 810 Barret Neighborhood Place (NP) is an incentive based initiative, where any client seeking services at NP 810 can earn coupons to use in the store for basic household items such as cleaners, paper towels, hygiene items, diapers, wipes, first aid kits, books, etc.

Nov. 14, The Magnificent Taste to help support the 2012 Annual Holiday Line, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Located on the 2nd and 3rd Floors at 810 Barret Ave. Call Charlene Welch at 574-6820 with any questions or to participate. Enjoy many stops along the 2nd & 3rd floor hallways of 810 Barret with a variety of elegant foods choices such as desserts, hors d’oeuvres, and many other delicious food samplings. Cost is $5.00 per person.
The Magnificent Taste supports the Holiday Line, Community Services and Revitalization’s version of the Angel Tree.


Nov. 26-30, Coat, Hat & Glove Drive to benefit families in need served by Cane Run Neighborhood Place
Gently used items can be dropped off at Cane Run Neighborhood Place, 3410 Lees Lane or Farnsley Community Middle School, 3400 Lees Lane, during regular business hours. Call 485-6810 or 448-9799 for more information.


Dec. 1, Reindeer Trot Walk/Run at the Farnsley-Moreman Landing at Riverside to benefit the Holiday Line, 9 a.m.
Located at 7410 Moorman Rd. Call Carol Holt at 574-6142 to register or for more information. Bring your family and friends to share in some holiday cheer as you walk or run this 1-2 mile course. Walkers/runners who have $20 or more sponsorship will receive special recognition. Helps to benefit the Holiday Line, Community Service’s and Revitalization’s version of the Angel Tree.
