Neighborhood Place Partners Offer Free, Valuable Events in July
Two Training-to-Employment Orientations and a Back to School Festival Featured




Neighborhood Place locations across Jefferson County offer free, valuable workshops and services year-round which are open to the community. Below are some of the highlighted events for July which include two training-to-employment opportunities, three financial education workshops and a Back to School festival. Tuesday evenings now through November 5, "Sisters Who Care" at NorthWest Neighborhood Place, 6-8 p.m.

It’s not too late to join this valuable women’s support group being held weekly at NorthWest Neighborhood Place. Learn family management, enhancement and communication training – all in a supportive female environment.

Two Neighborhood Place locations offer I CAN BE! Orientations, Training-to-Employment Opportunities
The Louisville Urban League’s Center for Workforce Development (CWD) is recruiting for an exciting training-to-employment initiative, I CAN BE! Classes will begin in mid-August and graduates will be placed on-the-job in early September. Preference is given to those residing in zip codes 40203, 40210, 40211 and 40212. July 9, Understanding Credit Workshop at Urban Government Center, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Located at 810 Barret Ave, First Floor Conference Room. Call 574-7238 for more information. This free workshop will provide information about credit and what your credit status can mean for you. Sponsored by Neighborhood Place and Fifth Third Bank.

July 11, CHAMPS Daze Day at Farnsley Middle School, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

This Data Daze session is a 3-month update for all youth who participated in the CHAMPS! Camp (teen pregnancy prevention study) at Cane Run Neighborhood in April.

July 11, Lunch Money Series at NorthWest Neighborhood Place with Fifth Third Bank at 12 p.m.

Adam Hall with Fifth Third bank will share valuable tools and skills for budgeting, increasing your credit score, protecting yourself against identity theft and predatory lending as well as planning for retirement.

July 13, Child Literacy Fair at Farnsley Middle School, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Located at 3400 Lees Ln. Call 485-6810 for more information. Free books for adults and kids to celebrate reading over the summer. Sponsored by Cane Run Neighborhood Place and Farnsley Middle School.

July 17, NorthWest Neighborhood Place 17th Anniversary Celebration and Open House, 3 – 5:30 p.m.

It’s a celebration! Neighborhood Place staff members will be on hand to showcase current programs, upcoming events and address any questions or concerns. Lite refreshments will be served.

July 18, Banking Basics Workshop at Urban Government Center, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Located at 810 Barret Ave, First Floor Conference Room. Call 574-7238 for more information. This free workshop will give you knowledge and tools to make your banking account work for you. Sponsored by Neighborhood Place and Apprisen Financial Advocates.

July 20 and 27, "CHAMPS! Camp" (Creating Healthy Adolescents through Meaningful Prevention Services) at TJ Middle School, 8 – 5:30 p.m.
Located at 1503 Rangeland Road. Call 962.3175 for an information packet to register. CHAMPS! Camp is a 2-day training camp which provides youth ages 14-19 years old (males and females) the opportunity to participate in a teen pregnancy prevention study and learn more about healthy relationships. Youth are provided breakfast and lunch each day as well as incentives including a $75 VISA gift card on Day 2. Sponsored by the University of Louisville Kent School and the Office of Adolescent Health with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

July 25, Back to School Festival at Stuart Middle School, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Located at 4601 Valley Station Rd. Call the Family Resource and Youth Services Center at 363-1424 for more information. Free basic school supplies and backpacks will be provided for all students K-12 along with games, prizes, hula hoop and jump rope contests, and other great community resources. Plus a free lunch will be offered between 11:30-12:30 p.m. for youth 18 years and younger and the opportunity to receive a free child and adult pass to attend the Louisville Bats baseball game on July 29th. About Neighborhood Place
In November 2013, Neighborhood Place will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of its first site – First Neighborhood Place at 1503 Rangeland Road – which served as a pilot multi-service center to increase access to services. Today, eight Neighborhood Place locations, along with two satellite sites, provide one-stop centers bringing together Louisville Metro Government (including Community Services and Revitalization and Public Health and Wellness), Jefferson County Public Schools, Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Seven Counties. This July marks the 17th anniversary for NorthWest Neighborhood Place, which is housed in the Academy of Shawnee at 4018 West Market Street.
