Sarah Boesing, a graduate of Christian Academy of Indiana, has been named the 2008 recipient of Metro United Way's Youth Scholarship Award. Ms Boesing was chosen from among 65 applicants for her academic achievements and her outstanding volunteer involvement. Ms Boesing is the founder of "Breaking the Grey," which serves, supports, and encourages families facing childhood cancer or other life-threatening illnesses. Her ministry provides gifts, refreshments, parties and funding to the families and, more importantly, friendship and inspiration. She has also volunteered with the Cancer Care Center at Floyd Memorial Hospital; Dwelling Place, a soup kitchen within a church; and with Wayside Christian Mission. Ms Boesing will attend Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana in the fall in preparation to become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. Her future goals include founding a nonprofit organization benefitting those affected by serious childhood illnesses.

This is the 21st year that Metro United Way has awarded a Youth Scholarship to a high school senior or graduate who has demonstrated excellence in both academics and volunteer service to our community. The Scholarship awards $3,000 toward tuition and fees at a college or university in Kentucky or Indiana.

The panel of judges that reviewed this year's applicants was conprised of Kevin Brinkman, Bellarmine University; Maureen Gaynor, formerly with Indiana University Southeast; Christopher Hart, Spalding University; and Tom Brammer, University of Louisville. More information about the Metro United Way Youth Scholarship can be found at the bottom of this page.

Congratulations, Sarah!
