Dr. Ronald M. Holmes is the Coroner of Louisville and Jefferson County, Kentucky, the 16th largest jurisdiction in the United States. Dr. Holmes assumed office in January 2003. Prior to that he was a professor of criminal justice at the University of Louisville for almost 30 years. He has published more than 60 articles in professional journals and has also authored more than 23 books on topics such as serial murder, mass murder, psychological profiling, and sex crimes. His latest book is a reader on personal violence, published by Prentice-Hall. He has a new book, Suicide in the U.S.: Theory, Practice, and Investigation that is available in bookstores now. He has profiled more than 500 murder cases across the United States. He has also been invited to lecture across the U.S. as well as foreign countries such as England, Canada, Japan, Italy, Ireland, and other countries.

Dr. Holmes has initiated several new programs in the Coroner's Office including co-sponsoring a program dealing with youthful drunken driving offenders, providing lawn level grave markers for the homeless, and other community endeavors.
