Child Support Drivers License Suspension
Wednesday June 13, 2007
Irv Maze announced today that the Jefferson County Attorney’s Child Support Division will seek suspension of the operator’s licenses and commercial drivers’ licenses of individuals more than six months behind in their child support payments, in accordance with Kentucky Revised Statute 205.712.
“This program is part of our ongoing effort to collect money owed to our community’s children,” said Maze. “We are aggressive in seeking compliance with the law, and license suspension is one of the tools we use to encourage those individuals who are behind in payments to become current.”
Individuals owing more than six months child support payments have until June 15, 2007 to begin paying. On that date, notification will be issued and the license suspension process begun. As many as 11,000 individuals may be included.
“We’re seeking compliance with the law,” said Maze. “I urge everyone currently in arrears to contact the Child Support office immediately.”
The County Attorney’s Child Support Office is open from 8:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday. Call (502) 574-0821 for more information.
