County Attorney Newsroom
Court Re-organization begins August 1st
Wednesday June 1, 2011
County Attorney Mike O'Connell joined Kentucky Chief Justice John Minton, Justice Lizabeth Hughes Abramson, Judge Sean Delahanty, Circuit Court Clerk David Nicholson and Sheriff John Aubrey to announce today that the re-organized Jefferson District Court will begin August 1, 2011.
The re-organization expands the number of court dockets in the morning and afternoon, and distributes the number of cases on each docket more evenly. Cases litigation will continue to be called in the morning, while cases involving a single court appearance will be heard in the afternoon. Officials estimate that 45% of District Court cases will now be heard in the afternoon, thereby easing congestion in the mornings and allowing each judge more time with each case.
"This re-organization is the largest change in the Jefferson District Court System since its creation in the mid-1970s," said O'Connell. "The re-organization work group has worked very hard for two years to bring us to August 1st, and that will be only the beginning. The court system will continue to evolve in order to better serve the public."
