Tuesday June 7, 2011

Mike O’Connell, County Attorney, announced today the retention of J. Gerald Hebert, of Alexandria, Virginia, to consult with his office and Metro Council on the first re-districting of Louisville Metro.

Mr. Hebert has represented dozens of local governments and state legislatures in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, North and South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and other states in re-districting issues. His base of expertise comes from 21 years of service in the U.S. Department of Justice, specifically serving as Special Litigation Counsel in the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division.

“Mr. Hebert will add a national perspective to this first re-districting effort,” said O’Connell. “His depth of experience offers the Metro Council access to the latest Best Practices, and will help develop the most equitable, legally sound re-districting strategy upon which to build the future of Louisville/Jefferson County Metropolitan Government.”
