New Loft Condo Project Planned for East Market

Thursday June 1, 2006

Gallery Square Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson announced today a new $4 million, 21-unit condominium development, called Gallery Square Lofts, to be constructed in the East Market Arts District.

It’s the first major private residential development in east downtown since the former Clarksdale housing project was razed last year and a new neighborhood, Liberty Green, is being built in is place.

Located at the northwest corner of Clay and Jefferson streets, Gallery Square features 10 first-floor flats and 11 two-story, two bedroom loft townhouses, each with private rooftop decks overlooking the city skyline. Pre-construction prices start at $180,900.

"People at Gallery Square will be living in a work of art," Abramson said today at a groundbreaking ceremony. "With a new neighborhood coming out of the ground and folks showing a demand to live downtown, this project features urban living at its best."

Gallery Square is a collection of four buildings, each three stories, with a shared courtyard, elevated party deck and off-street parking. Designed by award-winning architect Michael Koch, it features vast expanses of glass, tall ceilings, loft spaces and sleek, modern interiors. Each unit has off-street parking, hardwood floors, granite countertops, and private gardens and balconies.

"People who live at Gallery Square can walk to restaurants, view cool art on East Market and shop at eclectic local stores, all just steps from their condos," Koch said.

Construction begins in June and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2007. Gallery Square is a joint venture between WEM Development Co and Modern Living LLC. The builder is Darrell Poynter, of Paris, Ky. Ryan Stultz, a partner in the project and a real estate agent with Keller-Williams Realty Louisville, is selling the lofts and condos.
