The University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences will observe National Public Health Week April 7-13, 2008 with several events exploring the effect of global climate change on public health.

A roundtable discussion on climate change and its risks for public health locally, nationally and internationally will be held Wednesday, April 9, from 1-3pm on the UofL Health Sciences Campus in the Kornhauser Health Sciences Library Auditorium, 500 S. Preston Street.

Speakers will delve deep into climate change, the risks it
poses for the public's health and the local, national and international initiatives aimed at addressing the problem. Roundtable facilitators, David Tollerud, MD, MPH and Bob
Jacobs, PhD of the SPHIS Department of Environmental
and Occupational Health Sciences, have invited local experts to join the conversation including Keith R.
Mountain, PhD, Associate Professor and Chair of Geography and Geosciences, UofL, Margaret Carreiro,
PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, UofL ,
Sarah Lynn Cunningham, PE, Louisville Climate Action Network and Art Williams, Director, Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District.

"Milestones in Public Health" Grand Rounds will be held Friday, April 11, from 12-1pm in the K Building, Room 4007, 555 S. Floyd Street. The featured speaker is biology professor Paul Ewald, who will present "Emerging Diseases: How to Distinguish the Few Grave Threats from the Many Fizzlers." Ewalds work in evolutionary biology examines the development of virulence and antibiotic resistance by infectious diseases. Lunch is available with pre-registration.

The "Milestones in Public Health" exhibit will be on display at both events and at the School of Public Health and Information Sciences during the week .

Both events are free and open to the public.
