Population Served

Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) serves all Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers who have questions about billing issues or believe they may be a victim of potential fraud or abuse. SMP staff and volunteers are available for presentations, one-on-one counseling or to answer general questions.

The SMP Presentation Menu lists topics that may be of interest to a senior group in your area. Topics include:
  • Senior Medicare Patrol Intro
  • Scams that Target Seniors
  • Medicare Overview
  • Medical Identity Theft
  • Medicare Changes and Special Topics

What is Healthcare Fraud?
Medicare fraud happens when Medicare is billed for services or supplies you never got or didn't need. Waste and abuse occurs when questionable practices result in unnecessary costs to Medicare.

How Does the SMP Program Help Stop Healthcare Fraud?
  • Educate seniors, caregivers and other groups about healthcare fraud
  • Provide information on healthcare fraud at community events
  • Help people report fraud when it occurs
  • Answer questions that seniors may have and help them to understand all their medical paperwork
