Medical Reserve Corps/Cities Readiness Initiative

Your community needs YOU!
Learn how you can help during natural disasters like the ice storms of 2009. Find out how you can lend a hand during health emergencies such as last year’s H1N1 pandemic flu immunization campaign. Discover how you can assist your friends and neighbors in the event of a terrorist attack. Complete the required training to join the Medical Reserve Corps, all in one day!

Please attend a free workshop sponsored by the Kentucky Department for Public Health in conjunction with the Medical Reserve Corps and this region’s Public Health departments. The workshop is open to all age 18 and older.

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is an organization of citizen volunteers who help out during community emergencies. This workshop’s morning sessions will include volunteer orientation and the required Incident Command System training for people who wish to join MRC. There will be separate sessions for people who are already MRC members to learn about specific plans for serving the people of the community in the event of a public health crisis or emergency, such as dispensing medicine using various types of Points of Dispensing or helping in a Special Medical Needs shelter.

In the afternoon, all attendees will get the chance to exercise and practice with two different types of Point of Dispensing (POD) models, and with emergency sheltering for people with medical needs. The exercises promise to be fun as well as educational.

FREE parking is available in two garages – bring your parking ticket stubs to the registration desk to be validated, and the parking fees will be waived for the Cowger Garage (Fourth and Market Streets) and the Commonwealth Garage (on Jefferson Street between Third and Fourth Streets).

FREE breakfast and lunch will be served.
