Public Health and Wellness Offers Free Diabetes Education Classes

The Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will hold two series of free classes in August for individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes. Each series consists of four classes and attendance at all four classes is encouraged. Phone 574-6663 for reservations or for more information.
The first series begins Tuesday, August 6 at the Southwest Regional Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library located at 10375 Dixie Highway. Classes will be held on successive Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The second series begins Thursday, August 8 at University Hospital 550 S. Jackson Street in the Ambulatory Care Building. Classes will be held on successive Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Class size is limited so please call to make a reservation. The class schedule is as follows:
Class 1, What is diabetes? Checking blood sugar. What types of food should I eat?
Class 2, What do I do when I am sick? What kinds of problems can diabetes cause? Learning about medications. How do I count carbohydrates?
Class 3, How can I stay healthy with diabetes? How do I read a label? What do I need to know about fat and salt?
Class 4, Taking care of my feet. Coping with diabetes. Keeping a healthy weight and staying active.
