Public Health and Wellness Now Taking Applications for Summer “Change Leaders” Program

Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness’s Center for Health Equity is now taking applications for the Healing Futures Fellowship summer initiative for youth ages 15 to 18 entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school in the fall of 2013.
The program will be held July 1 through August 9 and will be comprised of both classroom and field sessions seven hours a day five days a week. It will bring together 25 rising sophomores, juniors and seniors from across Louisville.
“The Healing Futures Fellowship summer program will introduce young people from neighborhoods throughout our city to public health methodology in the study of violence and other issues. It will engage them in exploring solutions to these public health issues,” said Public Health and Wellness Director Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt.”
Each young person chosen for the Healing Future’s Fellowship will receive up to a $1,000 stipend. The application process involves writing a 500 word essay. The deadline for applications is May 26. To apply or for more information, visit www.louisvilleky.gov/health.
