Public Health and Wellness Department Offers Diabetes Classes
Individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes are invited to attend a series of four free classes being offered by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness. Classes begin Tuesday, July 8 at the Highlands – Shelby Park Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library, located in the Mid-City Mall at 1250 Bardstown Road.

Salmonella Case in Louisville Linked to National Outbreak in Tomatoes
Laboratory tests have confirmed that a case of Salmonella in a Louisville woman is Salmonella Saintpaul and that its genetic fingerprint links it to the national outbreak in tomatoes. The woman was ill in May and has since recovered. Privacy regulations prohibit the disclosure of any other information on the identity or health status of the patient.

Registration Open for Third Annual Tommie Smith Youth Track Meet
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is seeking youth ages 5 to 18 to register for the third annual Tommie Smith Track & Field Meet. The meet is an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) sanctioned event and will be held Friday, July 11 (throwing events) at University of Louisville, Parkway Field, 350 Warnock St., and Saturday, July 12 (running and jumping events) at Male High School, 4409 Preston.

Public Health & Wellness Department to Offer Free Wellness Seminar
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will offer a free seminar on how to start a weight-control support group and how to offer low-calorie (lite bite) tasting opportunities. The seminar is aimed not only at professionals wishing to set up worksite classes, but also at those who wish to set up groups among their friends.
