H1N1 Clinic to Be Held Tuesday
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will hold another clinic to immunize those at high-risk from H1N1 flu.The walk-in clinic will be held Tuesday November 24 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church located at 1501 S. 34th St. The clinic will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. as long as vaccine supply lasts. No appointments are necessary.

H1N1 Clinic to Be Held Saturday Nov 21
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness will hold another clinic to immunize those at high-risk from H1N1 flu. The Department has 3,000 vaccine doses available for this clinic - about 1,500 nasal mist doses and 1,500 injections (shots).

Public Health and Wellness and Louisville Water Company Launch “Clean Hands” Campaign
The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and Louisville Water Company want you to wash your hands…thoroughly! The Clean Hands Campaign provides a free 5x5 decal that reads “Don’t share your germs! Keep hands clean!” that can be posted in restrooms all over the city…in schools, restaurants, churches, childcare facilities, and businesses.

Slugger Field Flu Shot Clinic Sunday
The Slugger Seasonal Flu Shot Clinic will be held Sunday October 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 401 E. Main St. There will be plenty of free parking. No appointments are necessary. Seasonal flu shots will be available for everyone 6 months of age or Flu shots cost $25. The nasal flu mist costs $25. Medicare Part B and Passport will cover the cost for those with those insurance plans. older.

Board of Health to Hold Two Community Forums on Artificial Trans Fat
The Louisville Metro Board of Health will hold two community forums on the health effects of consuming foods with artificial trans fat and will seek input on what should be done to protect Louisville citizens. The forums will be held on Tuesday October 27 and on Thursday October 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 400 E. Gray St. each night. Free parking is available.

Community Events Planned for National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week
October 25 - 31 is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and the Louisville Metro Department of Housing and Family Services will hold special events in observance of National Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. All events are free.

Health Officials Respond to H1N1 Flu Death
The Kentucky Public Health laboratory has confirmed that the death of a 41 year old female on September 21 in Louisville was caused by lung disease related to the H1N1 virus.

Public Health and Wellness Offers Free Diabetes Classes
Individuals interested in learning about and managing diabetes are invited to attend a series of four free classes being offered by the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health & Wellness. Classes begin Wednesday, October 7 at Neighborhood House, 201 N. 25th Street. Classes are free and attendance at the entire series of four classes is encouraged. All classes begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Phone 574-6663 for reservations or for more information.

Shingles Vaccine Gone
The Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness has administered its entire stock of low-cost shingles shots. The shots became available for $10 each last week at the department’s flu shot clinics. The current supply of low-cost Zostavax vaccine has been exhausted and shots are no longer available.
