The Office of Emergency and Public Health Preparedness (OE&PHP) was created in 2004 as part of Dr. Adewale Troutman's reorganization of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness. OE&PHP brings together many of the current efforts that have focused on the preparedness, response and mitigation of natural, man-made and potential terrorist events. The new office is responsible for the planning of incident/emergency response (All Hazards) and will work with the community and response personnel to educate and train responders.
The OE&PHP utilizes the department's funding allocations from the CDC Cooperative Agreement grant via the Kentucky Department of Public Health. Commonly referred to as the Bio-Terrorism Program, this initiative has placed emphasis on new roles for the LMPHW that exceed bio-terrorism. Funds have been used to bolster infrastructure, train staff, enhance laboratory capacity and refine our syndromic surveillance efforts.
