The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, Center for Health Equity is hosting a Men’s Health Summit.

The theme of the Summit is Men’s Health: Talk it. Walk it. Be it. It is designed to be a structured forum for the community, health providers, and government officials to learn more about why even though men, particularly African American men, suffer from many chronic diseases at higher rates than women, they rarely seek preventative healthcare.

Our special guests for this event will be:

  • Dr. Anderson J. Franklin, best selling author of From Brotherhood to Manhood: How Black men rescue their relationships and dreams from the invisibility syndrome;
  • Dr. Guy Wheeler, nationally known speaker, therapist, and consultant specializing in mobilizing people and organizations; and
  • Dr. Ricky L. Jones, Director of Center for the Study of Crime & Justice in Black Communities, Department of Pan-African Studies, University of Louisville.

Additional Summit highlights include:

  • A personal testimony from Biggest Loser contestant, Mozziz “Coach Mo” Dewalt
  • A special dialogue with Dr. Adewale Troutman, Director, Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness.
  • A panel discussion to address men’s cultural, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual health.
  • Free glucose, blood pressure, prostate cancer screenings, and HIV/AIDS testing provided by Norton Healthcare and Unicorn Inc.
  • Free haircuts, free massages, prizes, and a wealth of healthcare information.
  • Lunch will be provided as well as childcare and transportation assistance.
