Thursday October 28, 2010
The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) has honored Louisville Water Company with one of its top utility management awards. Louisville Water is one of 13 drinking water systems to receive the gold and platinum management awards on Tuesday, presented at the AMWA annual meeting in Henderson, Nevada.
Louisville Water received a gold award for its forward-thinking management style, high-quality and affordable drinking water and its responsive customer service. AMWA cited Louisville Water’s strong financial operations; in 2009, Standard & Poor’s upgraded the utility’s bond rating to put the company in the top eight percent of the 900 water and sewer utilities it rates. In addition, AMWA was impressed with the company’s community involvement where Louisville Water employees donated more than 4,800 hours to community service in 2009 and the company’s education programs reach more than 100 schools each year.
Louisville Water President and CEO Greg Heitzman accepted the award on behalf of the company’s 425 employees. “This recognition by our peers highlights our commitment to quality, innovation and value. Our union, Local 1683, is a key component in our success. The partnership we’ve created ensures we deliver an outstanding product at a good value to our customers.”
AMWA membership includes the nation’s largest publicly owned drinking water utilities. Its members provide safe, clean drinking water to more than 130 million Americans.
