Louisville Water Company Historical Book Wins Publishing Award

Water Works: 150 Years of Louisville Water Company, a historical book celebrating Louisville Water Company’s 150th anniversary and highlighting the past and present of Kentucky’s oldest public utility, has been recognized with a Silver Independent Publisher Book Award for 2011.
The coffee-style book, featuring photographs, original drawings and personal stories, was published last year as part of Louisville Water’s 150th Anniversary celebration which also included an exhibit at the Frazier History Museum and a community open house at the historic Water Tower.
The book was written and edited by Louisville Water Communications Manager Kelley Dearing Smith with a foreword by LWC President and CEO Greg Heitzman and published by Butler Books. It is available at all local bookstores and online at www.butlerbooks.com.
Water Works was selected as the Silver Medalist in the Southeast Regional Non-Fiction category. Winning selections were made from more than 4,000 entries submitted by 2,000 independent authors and publishers in 69 categories, including both regional and national. The book will be recognized at the 2011 Independent Publisher Book Awards Gala Ceremony in New York, May 23rd.
According to the Independent Publisher Book Awards announcement, “Judges found excellence in every category, and we proclaim the quality, creativity, and originality of independent publishing to be better than ever.”
Kelley Dearing Smith, author of Water Works: 150 Years of Louisville Water Company, will speak on the history of Louisville Water Company and the development of the book at the Crescent Hill Library, 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 17th, 2011.
