Louisville Historical League Honors New Library, Two New Fire Stations
Wednesday January 20, 2010
LOUISVILLE (January 15, 2010) – Louisville’s Newburg Library and its two newest fire stations, in the Butchertown and Portland neighborhoods, are among ten honorees receiving recognition from the Louisville Historical League. All three will receive the league’s “New Landmark Award”, which pays tribute to new buildings that fit well into their contextual environment.
The awards will be handed out this Sunday, January 17th at 2:00pm at Presentation Academy’s Arts & Athletic Center at Fourth and Breckinridge streets during the League’s 38th Annual Meeting. Both the media and the public are invited to attend.
“I am proud of the way these three new facilities serve the public from the technology offered at the Newburg Library to the state-of-the art protection at our new fire stations,” said Mayor Jerry Abramson. “To have all three honored for the way they fit into and reflect our community is really icing on the cake.”
Awards will also be presented for leadership in Louisville preservation and heritage efforts.
