The bold projects and inspiring events that made 2007 a great year in Possibility City!

Construction begins on two major projects that will dramatically alter Louisville’s skyline: the 62-story Museum Plaza which will house a contemporary art museum, retail, condos and offices − and a new waterfront arena, which will host University of Louisville sports and other major sporting events and concerts.



The City of Parks initiative − one of the nation’s largest parks expansion projects − moves aggressively forward in adding 4000 acres of new suburban parkland with the selection of a master planner, a series of public meetings, a new fitness and community center in Fern Creek, and the opening of canoe launches along Floyds Fork.


Louisville is again named one of America’s Safest Large Cities, as Louisville Metro Police launch “Keep Louisville Safe” − a campaign of tactics and awareness to reduce crime.

Center City and Iron Quarter projects are unveiled to complement 4th Street Live and the development along Main Street, adding new entertainment and retail options to the rapid growth in downtown Louisville.


Louisville’s downtown housing boom accelerates with new condos and apartments at all price levels and the start of the home-ownership phase at Liberty Green, which is transforming an entire neighborhood.

Louisville takes major strides in improving community health with a comprehensive smoking ban and increased access and focus on physical activity including new bicycle safety improvements, paths and lanes and the Louisville Loop, a 100-mile walking, hiking and biking path that will encircle and connect the community.


University of Louisville’s investment downtown continues with plans for a $300 million biomedical research park at the old Haymarket property.

Louisville grows new jobs by landing the corporate headquarters of PharMerica, a Fortune 1000 firm and accelerating the $1 billion expansion of the UPS WorldPort shipping hub at Louisville International Airport.


Louisville reduces the number of struggling readers by 9% with the Every 1 Reads partnership between the city, public schools and the local chamber of commerce. Forty-one schools receive the Mayor’s Top Apple Award for improved reading scores − with one school improving scores by 36 percent.

Louisville’s reputation as a sports destination is underscored by hosting the 2007 National Senior Games, the Ford Ironman Triathlon and with the unveiling of plans for Louisville Champions Park which will attract local, national and international sporting events from soccer to cyclocross. Louisville also announces The Cup Experience, a series of events that will surround the 2008 Ryder Cup next September.
