Abramson Searching For Community Christmas Tree

Friday October 3, 2003

Mayor Jerry Abramson is looking for the official holiday tree to use at the community’s traditional Christmas season kick-off -- Brown & Williamson's “Light Up Louisville” on Nov. 28.
"Every year, a generous citizen donates a tree from their property to help us kick off the holiday season in Louisville," Abramson said. "We need a needle-leaf tree -- preferably a spruce or fir tree -- that's at least 35 feet tall, with full foliage and no thin areas on any side."

A Metro Parks forestry crew will remove the tree from the donor's property. Abramson will recognize the person during the Light Up Louisville festivities in downtown Louisville. Abramson is asking prospective tree donors to call Mesude Duyar in the Metro Parks Forestry Office at (502) 636-5181, or by e-mail at

Light Up Louisville is being sponsored by Brown & Williamson for the 22nd straight year. The event, which draws more than 100,000 people downtown, is a celebration that kicks off the holiday season. Highlights include children decorating the community's tree, food and craft tents, fireworks, and live entertainment. The ceremonies culminate with the mayor switching on hundreds of thousands of holiday lights.
