Friday November 7, 2003

Mayor Jerry Abramson and The Cordish Company announced today the addition of Red Star Tavern to the 4th Street Live! development.
Blake L. Cordish, Vice President of The Cordish Company said, “We are incredibly excited that Restaurant Development Group is opening a Red Star as a part of 4th Street Live! Restaurant Development Group is widely recognized as one of the premier restaurateurs in the United States and Red Star is an awesome concept. It is another tremendous positive statement about the national market’s view of downtown Louisville and 4th Street Live! in particular. Red Star is on a very short list as one of most coveted tenants in the country.”

“We’re pleased to be announcing another tenant for the 4th Street Live! development,” said Mayor Jerry Abramson. “There is a growing buzz in our community – and particularly downtown – about this development. This announcement only adds to the excitement.”

4th Street Live! will link downtown Louisville’s convention center, offices, hotels, entertainment and cultural destinations. Developed in partnership with the City of Louisville, this $70 million retail/entertainment project will anchor the development of the 4th Street entertainment corridor.

Red Star Tavern, a 7,000 square-foot full-service restaurant, will feature indoor and outdoor seating. Red Star Tavern is an updated version of the classic American tavern and is known for buttery leather booths, a roaring hearth, high ceilings and dark mahogany wood. Featuring a theatrical bar with custom lighting, extensive wine list and eclectic artwork, Red Star Tavern offers a wide-ranging menu.

Red Star Tavern’s owner is Chicago-based, multi-concept operator, Restaurant Development Group (RDG), who presently owns 40 restaurants nationwide and whose prestigious portfolio of restaurants include Bar Louie, Nick & Tony’s, Bluepoint Oyster Bar, The Grillroom, Pier 4 Kitchen & Bar and more.
“We are excited about being a part of 4th Street Live!” stated Roger Greenfield, Restaurant Development Group President. “We feel development in downtown Louisville is under going a major renaissance and we are happy to be a part of a project leading the way. We look forward to being a part of the Louisville community for the years to come.”

4th Street Live! development plans call for 4th Street to once again open to vehicular traffic on a regular basis. The project will have the flexibility of closing 4th Street, creating Louisville’s largest entertainment space. The combination of entertainment, retail and nightlife with imaginative and innovative design will create a unique and vibrant destination.

4th Street Live! will feature a dramatic glass ceiling which will span 4th Street. This will also feature outdoor seating for the restaurants, and a permanent performance stage will provide live entertainment. The glass ceiling will also be used to hang lights and video screens. The end result will be a spectacular outdoor room that will tie the history and of 4th Street with the urban vitality of the new 4th Street Live!
