Mayor Greg Fischer Newsroom

Kentucky State Fair August 19 – 29, 2004

Wednesday August 18, 2004

Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced that Louisville Metro Government will have an expanded presence at the 2004 Kentucky State Fair, the event’s 100th anniversary.

The Louisville Metro Government booth, located in the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center’s South Wing in the Main Street Kentucky area, will have daily activities and presentations, Abramson said. Activities will range from exhibits on keeping neighborhoods safe to fire safety and fitness.

Local celebrities will also be reading to children in support of the Every 1 Reads initiative, a four-year, $16 million effort to ensure that every child in the public school system reads at grade level.

“We hope to provide some fun and games as well as give people an idea of the range of important activities and initiatives their metro government is involved in,” Abramson said. “We hope everyone who enjoys the fair and all it has to offer will take the time to stop and visit us and see all that’s going on in Louisville Metro Government.”

Presentations at the Louisville Metro Government booth will include:
· A “Meet the Metro Council” session at the booth on Tuesday, August 24 at 5 p.m.

· A “Meet the Mayor” session to give people an opportunity to ask Mayor Abramson questions. The session will be this Thursday, Aug. 19, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Metro Government booth.

· Daily drawings for a Louisville Metro T-Shirt & Cap and Louisville Fun Passes ranging from Zoo and Science Center memberships to annual Metro Parks Golf Passes.

· A Gallopalooza horse. Flying Ebony has re-located from outside of Metro Hall to the State Fair booth and will be on platform that makes it 12 feet high.

Finally, there will be more of a Louisville Metro “neighborhood” this year. In addition to main Louisville Metro booth, other Metro neighbors will include TARC, Metro Corrections and KAIRE (Kyiana Air Education, part of Air Pollution Control District).
