Abramson: New Department Will Increase Efficiency, Improve Service to Citizens

Mayor Jerry Abramson today announced that he has hired a woman with over three decades of management experience to oversee the consolidation of three government departments to increase efficiency and improve service.

Susan Neumayer is the new Director of the General Services Department, a consolidation of departments that deal with Fleet management, Facilities and Purchasing. Neumayer most recently served as a Director in Network Storage for Sun Microsystems, a multi-billion dollar technology company located in Santa Clara, Calif.

“I’m consolidating departments and functions that share a common purpose,” Abramson said. “They provide internal support to Metro agencies that deliver direct service to the public.”

Consolidating those areas into a General Services Department, Abramson said, will “streamline functions, place a renewed focus on quality service and ultimately reduce costs.”

In Neumayer, Abramson said he’s found someone with the “depth of experience and understanding of purchasing and supply management to successfully consolidate these departments in a way that will allow us to provide better service to our customers – the citizens of our hometown.”

Previously, Neumayer worked for two decades for General Electric in Louisville in a variety of management positions, including Supply Management, Marketing and Operations providing support for 18 locations worldwide.

The new director’s position in Louisville Metro Government is being created from unfilled positions in the consolidated fleet, facilities and purchasing departments.

Neumayer started her new position this week.
