Abramson Announces Flood Debris Pick-Up
Monday September 25, 2006
Louisville Metro Government and private waste haulers are joining forces to help clean up debris from residents whose homes were flooded over the weekend, Mayor Jerry Abramson said today.
In the Urban Services District, residents may put small debris in their garbage containers or in bags alongside the containers for regular pickup this week. If you have larger debris, such as furniture or appliances, call MetroCall at 311 or 574-5000 to request a pickup by Louisville Metro’s Solid Waste Management Services.
In suburban areas, residents should contact their private waste hauler for instructions on how debris can be picked up. Abramson has asked major private waste haulers to pick up flood-damaged debris from their customers and they have agreed to do so, some at no extra cost.
To assist waste haulers, citizens are asked to roll and tie carpeting into two-foot sections if possible and to make sure all small debris is in containers or bags.
“Given the volume of debris, it may take more than a week to collect everything, so please be patient,” Abramson said.
