Mayor Proclaims Days Honoring Cardinals and Wildcats

Thursday December 28, 2006

Citizens encouraged to wear red, blue on respective bowl-game days

Mayor Jerry Abramson has proclaimed December 29, 2006 as “Wildcat Pride Day” and January 2, 2007, as “Cardinal Pride Day” in honor of the University of Kentucky’s and University of Louisville’s upcoming bowl games. He is encouraging fans of both teams to wear blue and red, respectively, on those days.

“A lot of folks are die-hard Cardinal or Wildcat fans, but we can all be proud of their exceptional seasons this year that provided our city and our Commonwealth so much excitement,” Abramson said. “I know many of our citizens will be traveling to these bowl games, and Cardinal Pride Day and Wildcat Pride Day in Louisville will remind our teams and our fans that the citizens back home are behind them.”

The University of Louisville Cardinals square off against Wake Forest University on Jan. 2 in the Orange Bowl in Miami. The University of Kentucky Wildcats play Clemson University tomorrow in Nashville’s Music City Bowl.

In addition, the University of Louisville Alumni Association is creating a webpage to display photos of fans decked out in red. Photos can be emailed to alumnews@louisville.edu, and should include a title in the subject line and a short description in the body of the email. If you have more than one photo to send, please use separate email messages for each photo.
