Call for Volunteers for Senior Games

Tuesday March 6, 2007

12,000 athletes and 20,000 spectators expected this summer.

Register before March 15 for a chance to win an “Experience Louisville” prize package!

City leaders and organizers of the 2007 National Senior Games are seeking volunteers to assist Louisville when it hosts the “Olympics” for the nation’s best senior athletes this summer.

The June 22 through July 7 events will put Louisville in the national amateur sports spotlight with more than 12,000 elite-level athletes participating and 20,000 spectators coming to Louisville.

Organizers are looking for more than 4,000 volunteers of all ages who can assist with athlete services, operations and logistics, event management, PR/media, and administrative duties.

“The National Senior Games is a huge undertaking and we are looking for our citizens to join with us to help roll out the red carpet and put on a first-class event,” Abramson said.

Volunteers may select the type of activity for which they wish to help, and may choose to work just one or several shifts.

Volunteers registering before March 15 will be entered for a chance to win an “Experience Louisville” prize package, which includes two tickets to a Wynonna Judd concert at the Louisville Palace, dinner for two at Vincenzo’s and a night at The Brown Hotel. All volunteers will receive special-edition tie-dye t-shirts and additional incentives based on the number of volunteer shifts they staff.

The National Senior Games will take place at a variety of venues across Louisville. The Athlete and Corporate Village at the Kentucky Exposition Center will serve as the activity hub, and will include corporate sponsor booths, an entertainment stage and a Cyber Café where athletes and spectators can view event results.

The National Senior Games are sponsored by Humana.
