Mayor to Speak at Harvard

Tuesday November 17, 2009

Addressing Group of Newly-Elected Mayors From Around the Country

Mayor Jerry Abramson leaves tomorrow for Harvard University to help teach new mayors how to run their cities.

Abramson will participate in several panel discussions focusing on transition and leadership for nearly 20 newly-elected mayors from cities nationwide. It is part of a two-day seminar held at the Kennedy School of Government’s Institute of Politics at Harvard University.

As Louisville’s leader for more than twenty years as well as the past president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Abramson brings a unique perspective to the panel.

“I am honored to be able to share my experience with these new leaders who will be facing some of the same challenges I have faced over the years. I hope I can offer some advice to help ease their transition,” Abramson said.

The Mayor will discuss everything from transitioning from the campaign to city hall and how to deal with the tough economy, to managing a rigorous schedule and the impact of the job on family.

Mayors from Indianapolis, Miami, Nashville, Boston, Seattle and others are also participating.

Abramson will leave for Boston Wednesday and will return on Thursday.
