Abramson Hosts Final YMCA Thanksgiving Breakfast at KFC Yum! Center

Monday October 18, 2010

20th Year of Event Touts YMCA, City Accomplishments; Arena Tours Provided

The YMCA Mayor’s Community Thanksgiving Breakfast will celebrate its 20th year, while also paying tribute and thanks to longtime Mayor Jerry Abramson. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 23 on the floor of KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville. Buffet breakfast opens at 7:00 a.m., with the program beginning at 7:30 a.m.

This year’s 20th anniversary breakfast, Abramson’s last as mayor, will appropriately take place in a venue that symbolizes his successful tenure as the city’s longest serving mayor. The emcee for the morning will be local radio legend and personality Wayne Perkey. Louisville’s new incoming mayor will also be introduced to the audience.

In addition to Abramson, Jim Host, chairman of the Louisville Arena Authority, will serve as guest speaker, offering attendees an overview of the new arena and its benefits to the city and state. Complimentary tours of the recently completed and highly anticipated KFC Yum! Center will be available to anyone attending immediately following the breakfast.

The YMCA will provide a special presentation, celebrating its 160 years of service strengthening our community through childcare, youth sports, wellness and nutrition initiatives. By creating a healthy social environment, the YMCA helps people of all ages and from every walk of life develop the skills and relationships they need to be healthy, confident and connected to others.

“The YMCA Mayor’s Community Thanksgiving Breakfast is a way for the Y to communicate our service to the community in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” said Steve Tarver, president & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Louisville. “The Y engages our community in many ways and we’re pleased to celebrate the success of our community at this annual Mayor’s breakfast.”
