Abramson Welcomes Miss World Back to Louisville
Friday November 12, 2010
Mayor Jerry Abramson welcomed back home one of Greater Louisville’s own, the new reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills, and honored her with the Distinguished Citizen Award.
Mills, 18, was recently crowned the 60th Miss World during a two-hour televised event in China. Mills was chosen from among 115 women from around the world. She is only the third American to win the honor since the first Miss World Event in 1951.
Alexandria, who was born in Louisville and lives with her family in Shepherdsville, will spend much of the next year travelling to more than 30 countries as part of her responsibilities as Miss World. She will speaking with young people about the importance of protecting the environment and helping raise funds for the organization’s humanitarian efforts.
“Alexandria will be a tremendous ambassador for Louisville across the globe,” Abramson said.
