The Galt House to Fourth Street Live!
Light Up Louisville, the city’s beloved annual celebration to kick-off the holiday season, will expand and move to Fourth Street, creating a three-block festival of lights between the Galt House and Fourth Street Live, Mayor Greg Fischer announced today.
The city is seeking sponsors for the 32nd annual event, which includes a new component called Forty Nights of Lights that features a nightly light show set to music along Fourth Street. The concept includes light projections on buildings along Fourth as well as the traditional day-after-Thanksgiving celebration and flip-of-the-switch to illuminate downtown.
“Light Up Louisville is a great holiday tradition, but it’s time to create an even brighter, more exciting event that lasts from the day after Thanksgiving until New Year’s Eve,” Fischer said. “We believe this new experience will bring even more people downtown to celebration the season.”
Light Up Louisville and Forty Night of Lights will end at midnight on New Year’s Eve with a light show and fireworks celebration welcoming 2013.
Joseph Macdonald, the city’s Director of Special Events, said LG&E and the Galt House are lead sponsors, but the city is still seeking other sponsorships, including a media partner to help promote the new concept.

“We are committed to making our community a better place to live and work. The holiday attraction of Forty Nights of Lights and the location change to the 4th Street corridor will create new opportunities for downtown restaurants and businesses,” Macdonald said.
