Mayor Launches New Music Series at Metro Hall

Monday September 17, 2012

First performer of monthly series will be local singer Cheyenne Mize

A new monthly series showcasing local and regional musicians and artists will be held in the historic setting of Louisville Metro Hall downtown, Mayor Greg Fischer announced today.

“Louisville has an international reputation for local music, as well as performing and visual arts,” Fischer said. “We wanted to create the opportunity to enjoy a performance in the unique setting of Metro Hall, which is the people’s building. We’ll be featuring an eclectic mix of great performers and artists.”

Fischer said in addition to all types of music – including folk, Bluegrass, jazz, and international – the series will occasionally feature other types of visual and performing artists.

The Mayor’s Music and Art Series will be held the first Thursday of the month in the Mayor’s Gallery, 4th floor of Metro Hall, 527 W. Jefferson St. The performances are free and open to the public, first come first served. The 45-minute shows will be primarily acoustic.

The first performance on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 12 p.m. will feature Louisville singer/songwriter Cheyenne Mize.

Future performers include the Louisville-based world-music group, Sudanese Rebaba on Nov. 1.

All shows will be taped and broadcast on the city’s MetroTV channel which airs on Insight channel 25 and also online at

Brown-bag lunches will be permitted, but due to the historic nature of the Mayor’s Gallery, no outside drinks will be allowed. However, Louisville Water will provide Louisville pure tap at the performances.

The Kentucky Center is a production partner for the new music series and WFPK 91.9 is a media sponsor.
